Create without Dies – Vintage Pocket Card

Hello my friends, teammates, and followers! I hope you all had a great Easter, surrounded by your loved ones and creating new memories… I did just that! We went on a family trip to the Mayan Copan Ruins, and stayed in the town for days and shared a lot at the same time we adventured in many fun places like the Macaw Park, the Thermal Water Park and so much more… The last time we visited Copan we didn’t have our boy, so this time was so much fun (and challenging). I can’t complain, I had a wonderful time!

Anyways, I thought I would stop by and share a card with you. I’m always trying to give a twist to my projects and in this case the interesting thing is that it didn’t require dies. In the end I thought I’d use a die to make some artist trading cards that I added to the inside pocket, but that is optional and only an extra to the card itself.

Here’s my card for today:

I used 3 sets from Nearestore: “Cozy Spring”, “Old Fashion” and “Vintage Newspaper Ads”. These sets not only include digital backgrounds, but also digital elements that coordinate together to create a project. I started off printing all the elements I wanted to use. I worked with the printed green paper and just folded the cardstock to achieve a layered fold. Because I used letter sized cardstock, I added a piece of Vintage Newspaper Ads paper to completely overlap the front side of the card. One trick I want to share with you is, that though the Vintage Newspaper Ads set consists of individual ads, to add some versatility to it I used the set’s cover, which is actually a perfect background with all the ads mixed together.

The front frame is actually a digital element that I cut and with it I framed the little lady ad. I used a clock clipart (also included in the sets) to decorate the frame; it was heat embossed with pearleascent powder. To finish the front of my card I added a bow embellished with a vintage button and some pearls.

Once you open the card, it’s left side is decorated with a grungy image of the Eiffel Tower. It comes as it is so there’s nothing to do but cut it. I just added some crystals to it’s corners to frame the image.

To the right side of the opened card, you see the little pocket flap where you can add tags, pictures or any other things for your recipient. Like I mentioned before I made some ATCs that match the vintage feel of the project (from Vintage Fashion). Each of them were printed in wallet size, cut with an A2 Matting Basics die (from Spellbinders), distressed with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped with little sentiments from Justrite’s “Ooh La La set”, and Flourishes’ “Cherry Blossoms” set. 

The final size of my card was 4 1/2″ x 5″. 

I hope you enjoyed this project, and that you feel inspired to create an overlapped pocket card too. Dies or no dies, there are so many ways to do them, but for sure it makes a lovely personalized project for anyone. I particularly destined it to be a vintage Mother’s Day Card.
